Derek Ellerman

Derek Ellerman co-founded and serves on the Board of Polaris Project, an international nonprofit organization combating human trafficking and modern-day slavery with direct services to victims, advocacy for stronger laws, training and capacity-building for first responders, and operation of the national human trafficking hotline.  He also serves as Board Chair of Groundswell, a national organization building new models for economic organizing in the clean energy economy, and as co-owner of Everyday Feminism, one of the fastest growing online feminist communities.  At 26, Ellerman was elected as an Ashoka Fellow, joining the prestigious global association of social entrepreneurs as the youngest U.S. Fellow at the time.  Ellerman has been a featured speaker on social entrepreneurship and human trafficking at dozens of conferences and trainings across the country and has testified before Congress the issue of modern-day slavery.  His work has been featured in numerous media outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post, National Public Radio (NPR), and CNN.  He has a Sc.B in Cognitive Neuroscience from Brown University.
