On Exchanging

The Ashoka U Exchange is upon us!

Our Goals

With about 300 attendees from 70 colleges and universities coming to Duke University this Saturday, we are ready to immerse ourselves in a weekend of exchanging ideas, stories, and experiences. With conferees hailing from 10 countries and 32 states, we aim to host an Exchange in its truest form: producing mutual benefit for all involved, leveraging available resources, and creating synergies across campuses and, indeed, around the world.

Ashoka Fellow Greg Van Kirk and other speakers will guide participants on their journey of engagement. Practitioners and professors – especially the winners of the Ashoka U Campus Innovation Awards – will help attendees forward their goals of changemaking on their campuses. With this Exchange, we aim to empower students, administrators, practitioners, and educators to probe the possible in social entrepreneurship education.

The People

Participants at this weekend’s Exchange were hand-selected for their changemaking potential. We aim to align the diverse co-curricular interests of our attendees with their educational interests.

Our 300 participants run the gamut from fierce fighters for food justice to professors on the forefront of educational innovation to administrators creating a campus culture of entrepreneurship. As shown below, the diverse range of our participants’ co-curricular interests is remarkable.

The Challenge

Our challenge is to construct an environment at this Exchange which actualizes changemaking on campuses, providing our participants with pathways for innovative social entrepreneurship education. Fortunately, we are aided by the TEDxAshokaU  event preceding our Exchange. Focusing on Universities Driving Global Change, this TEDx event will feature speakers who are professors, administrators, practitioners, and students who are pursuing novel lines of social engagement.

Additionally, our participants have told us what they are seeking. Some aim for resources in teaching & curricula; others are searching for reliable Research and verifiable Metrics. As shown below, the plurality of our participants are looking to engage with their communities.

Our Role

Ashoka U aims to create a world where every college and university inculcates a culture of changemaking. This Exchange is just one step toward this vision.
