Participation in the Commons is a professional development experience around the building blocks of a changemaking education. It includes curated connections to peers, a framework for project development, valuable resources, and the guidance of an experienced Coach. The Commons also unlocks access to Ashoka U’s broader network of over 250 global higher education institutions and can be a stepping stone towards the Changemaker Campus designation.

Professional Development

The Commons is an opportunity to build broad field knowledge and context. In addition, participants gain concrete skills in core areas of importance for social innovation education.

Curated Connections to Peers

As an application-based opportunity, the Commons brings together vetted individuals to work together on shared goals. Participants build strong ties with peers and learn from their diverse perspectives through activities, peer reviews, and presentation evaluations.

Guided Learning Journey

Along with the coach and peers, participants receive a range of materials from Ashoka U to accelerate their learning as they move through the Commons development framework.

Connection to Broader Ashoka U Network

Participating institutions are directly connected within their cohort, to their coach, and across cohorts to over 20 peer institutions advancing social innovation in higher education. By joining the Commons, participants also become engaged members of Ashoka U’s network of over 250 institutions around the globe.

Benchmark of Progress Towards Changemaker Campus Designation

At the end of the program Ashoka U can help participating institutions break down the requirements for the Changemaker Campus designation, and understand next steps towards building a comprehensive changemaking education.
