The most important Impact Investing Conference.. that has nothing to do with Impact Investing: I’ve just returned from the future, and I’m pumped. Ashoka U Exchange 2012 was a fantastic conference. Unlike many conferences out there, this one had a clear point of view: today’s university needs to change – fast – to meet the challenges of our times.

Danielle Barbeau is currently a graduate student in the Leadership Studies M.A. Program at the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES). Her focus in the program is on leadership for social change and community building and she is currently conducing an action research project on USD Changemaker Hub. Danielle is originally from Boulder, Colorado, where she completed her B.A. in Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU) then worked as an Admissions Counselor. In 2008, Danielle relocated to San Diego and began her current professional position at the University of San Diego as an Advisor in the Office of International Studies Abroad. She is passionate about helping students study abroad as a means of fostering empathy, cultural understanding, and human connections. Read Danielle’s articles and blogs below:

Amy Holiday, from Sacramento, is a senior at Tulane University. She was a member of the first cohort of AshokaU members at Tulane, and has gotten involved with the momentum towards social innovation developing in the New Orleans and Tulane community. She is particularly interested in this process as it relates to school improvement and reform; and she wishes, ardently, that she could be majoring in Educational Leadership instead of English. Currently serving as program manager of Tulane’s AshokaU student group, TUchangemakers, Amy worked to develop change, a weekly social innovation newsletter that is now sent to over 800 community members, and is excited to be engaged in the development of the university’s role in social change. Laura White on the Disruption Needed in Higher Education: Empathy
Brian McCollow is a senior at Arizona State University studying sustainability, focusing on global problem solving and development. He is Director of Ideas at InfinitySquared, a hybrid global consulting group and project facilitation mechanism that engages an international network to create ecosystems for change. Before co-founding InfinitySquared, Brian visited Ghana multiple times with GlobalResolve, ASU’s flagship social entrepreneurship program, and circumnavigated the globe with Semester at Sea. Brian is intrigued by the process of taking ideas to impact and is passionate about developing creative solutions to complex problems.
