“We have taken a multi-stakeholder approach to program development. The program strives to serve students and young professionals, social entrepreneurs, and impact investors with different and compelling value propositions. So, it is not just an education program or capacity development program, at least in traditional terms. It is both. We see the Frontier Market Scouts Program playing a useful role in the social entrepreneurial ecosystems in capital-starved regions and sectors by mobilizing human capitals.”

Frontier Market Scouts

The Frontier Market Scouts (FMS) fellowship program turns compassionate and capable young professionals into talent scouts and investment managers serving local entrepreneurs and social-minded investors in low-income and capital-weak regions of the world. Fellows (undergraduates, graduate students, career changers, and professionals) complete a certificate program in impact investing and social enterprise management in Monterey, California before departing on two to six month-long field assignments. The pre-deployment training is delivered by leading practitioners in social enterprise management and impact investing. Launched in January 2011, FMS has trained 87 participants in impact investing and social enterprise management and placed 56 fellowswith 63 small and growing businesses in Brazil, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Turkey, the United States, and Venezuela.

How to replicate or get involved in the Frontier Market Scouts Program

The Frontier Market Scouts training is open to students, current professionals, career-changers and others who have a passion for social enterprise management and impact investing.
