Risking and Changing Sarakasi Style

We’ve been thinking a lot about risks. Ashoka U staff member, Erin Krampetz, was interviewed on dowser.org recently, about what it means to take measured risks. And Link TV’s film contest winner titled Rising to the Top caught our attention for its acrobatic approach to risk and change. The film explores the work of the Sarakasi Trust with impoverished Kenyan youths “to train them as dancers and acrobats, a process which gives young people self-belief and helps them fulfill their potential both on the stage and off it.”

The dancers portrayed in Rising to the Top step out of their usual comfort zones and risk trying something new and unusual to gain the momentum and the “tools to more effectively mobilize their lives.

This approach to changemaking had some family resemblance to the remarkable performance project at The New School.
