Tech and Changemaking Resources: For Students

Below we’ve compiled resources, events, and opportunities specifically deigned for students engaged in STEM fields.

Resources

  • Toolkit for infusing social impact into CS/STEM at your university
  • Coding it Forward:  a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit empowering computer science, data science, and design students to create social good by breaking down the barriers to entry in social impact spaces.
  • Civic Digital Fellowship:  a summer internship program in public service for technology students.
  • First Act Fund:  a new source of early risk capital and support for early-stage doers. We’re encouraging young people with technical backgrounds to pursue their most ambitious and atypical ideas by providing up to $10,000 in funding.
  • Impact Labs:  an organization that provides greater access to opportunities at the intersection of technology and social good, connecting students to seasoned social entrepreneurs, meaningful career opportunities, and capital to help ignite their ideas.

Events

  • MedHacks at JHU:  What if the most creative minds channeled their focus into solving the most impactful problems of today? Imagine if we could apply the ingenuity that powers the most profound technology into the most fundamental of all human concerns: health.
  • Reboot The Earth is a social coding event that brings young computer programmers, scientists and other interested people together under the auspices of the United Nations to improve upon or build a new software program that addresses the current climate crisis.
  • 2019 Changemaker Challenge.  T-Mobile and the T-Mobile Foundation are proud to partner with Ashoka for the second year of our Changemaker Challenge, a national contest that empowers young people to make impactful, sustainable changes in their communities.  Submit projects in one of three categories: technology, environment, and education.

Opportunities

  • Impact Fellowship:  a 2-week gathering of talented and passionate computer science students who want to use their skills for social good.
  • Impact Coalition:  Impact labs matches you with an internship/full-time role with a company that truly makes a difference.
  • Stanford University Innovation Fellows:  The University Innovation Fellows (UIF) program empowers students around the world to become agents of change in higher education. Fellows create opportunities that help their peers unlock their creative potential and develop the design-centered mindset required to take on complex challenges in today’s world.
