“Nonprofits should be viewed as a business; a business with a different set of stakeholders and goals versus ‘a charity.’ This shift in mindset for Millennials will be a subsequent effect of applying their classroom concepts to the business challenges that nonprofits are facing through skill-based volunteering opportunities. ChangeTheWorld.org builds this connection, making skill-based opportunities more accessible to university students. ChangeTheWorld.org helps expedite this transformation by saving faculty, staff, and student leaders the time it takes to find committed clients for their curricular and co-curricular projects.” – Pammi Bhullar

ChangeTheWorld.org Nonprofit Consulting Program – 2015 Awardee

In 2009, ChangeTheWorld.org (CTW) nonprofit consulting program was created by the Center for Social Value Creation (CSVC) in the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, in partnership with Grassroots.org. ChangeTheWorld.org aimes to strengthen the capacity and business acumen of nonprofits while empowering students to apply classroom concepts to positively impact society. With this glimpse into the nonprofit model, students may also begin to see the social impact sector as an area with career opportunities. Projects that students typically work on include developing earned revenue models, program assessments, marketing plans, social media strategies, and more. As student have more hands on learning opportunities, this experience builds the capacity of resource-constrained nonprofits eager to run their organizations more strategically.

ChangeTheWorld.org has worked with 12 university partners matching almost 500 student consultants to about 200 nonprofit organizations worldwide. Our nonprofits have received the equivalent of $3,000,000 of in-kind consulting services from our student teams. 90% of our nonprofits have implemented some or all of their team’s recommendations, and would recommend our services to other nonprofits. Since 2012, 100% of our nonprofit clients would recommend our students’ consulting services to other nonprofits.
